Asbestos Survey

'Repérage des matériaux et produits contenant l’Amiante'

The Asbestos Survey is carried out to ascertain the presence of asbestos in any product or materiel used in the construction of the buildings. Asbestos has been widely used in construction in France in a huge variety of products and materiel. Whilst presenting interesting properties for use in construction, asbestos presents serious health risks: asbestosis, mesothelioma and lung cancer.
The diagnostiqueur will inspect all buildings on the property to establish the presence of asbestos, rates the condition of the elements containing asbestos and gives his recommendations on the treatment of the elements containing asbestos. If the diagnostiqueur suspects the presence of asbestos in any element, he may order a laboratory analysis of a sample taken.

The fabrication, importation and sale of products containing asbestos was outlawed in France from the 1st January 1997 and thus the Asbestos Survey is obligatory for the sale of all property with a building permit dated before the 1st January 1997.

The current legislation was brought into force on the 1st September 2002 and the Asbestos Survey report is valid for ‘life’ regardless of the findings, with one exception: any subsequent demolition or renovation work on the property will result in an obligation to renew the Asbestos Survey on the following sale.
