The area is very popular with an international community drawn to its many delights. Unlike many other expat communities, however, the one here tends to be very discreet - complementing the local community and culture rather that replacing it. Indeed in many villages and small towns the expats are often more supportive of local events and services than the local French, and it is this vigour that makes may local services and businesses viable.
This is particularly the case with top end restaurants and cultural activities, and in many ways the sophistication of the area is due to the support that it gets from the international community.
Unapologetically middle class, the area is replete with successful and driven people from all walks of life who are open and sociable, and make for a fun and varied social life for whatever age or interest group suits your preference.
