Why Bacchanalia?

Bacchus is the Ancient Greek God of Wine, the inspirer of ritual madness and ecstasy. He was also known as the Liberator, freeing one from one’s normal self, by madness, ecstasy or wine!  His divine mission was to bring an end to care and worry.

The Bacchanalia were held in secret and attended by women only!!

Following an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response to my ‘Breaking News’,  I realise that it is about time that Eymet has a Wine Club!  The name ‘Bacchanalia’ is purely a suggestion - it appealed to me for some reason – and the fact that only women attended the Bacchanalia is purely an historical fact – and not my wish!!  Obviously women also had fun many centuries ago!!
